Caccia al Piano 2016 - Ruit Hora

This is a red wine produced by Caccia al Piano 1868. It is a winery in the beautiful Bolgheri in Tuscany. We visited them in September 2019 ( see our blog about the visit ). The winery is built in an old house which belonged to the Della Gerardeschi family. It’s a blend of Merlot 65%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25% and 10% Petit Verdot. The wine has a dark ruby color with the core not true to the rim ( the vintage is 2016). The viscosity is medium high (14.5% abv). The nose is intriguing with notes of black cherry, black currant and secondary notes of cedar and tobacco. The palate shows a full body wine with velvety tannins and a perfectly balanced acidity and a medium persistence. In summary a very good wine, full body, a perfect pairing with hard cheeses or any meat or game dish. It can also be a meditation wine in a chilled winter evening in front of a fire. PM: 90
