Wine: Lampante Montefalco Rosso Riserva DOC 2013
Producer: Tenute Lunelli
Region: Montefalco, Umbria, Italy
Vintage: 2013
Appearance
Deep ruby-garnet with a developing brick rim, indicating graceful bottle evolution. The wine remains bright and concentrated, with excellent clarity and slow, persistent tears.
Nose
Complex and expressive. Initial aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry compote, and dried plum are followed by elegant tertiary notes of tobacco leaf, leather, cedar, sweet spices, cocoa, espresso, and forest floor. Hints of balsamic herbs, dried rosemary, and subtle earthy nuances add further depth and sophistication.
Palate
Dry, full-bodied, and beautifully structured. The fruit remains vibrant despite its age, supported by refined, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity that provides balance and length. Layers of black fruits, dark chocolate, licorice, clove, and toasted oak unfold seamlessly, leading to savory notes of tobacco and dried herbs. The oak is fully integrated, contributing complexity without dominating the fruit.
Finish
Long, persistent, and harmonious, with lingering notes of dark berries, cocoa, spice, and earthy minerality.
Overall Assessment
The 2013 Lampante Montefalco Rosso Riserva is entering an excellent stage of maturity, displaying the balance between youthful fruit and the complexity developed through bottle aging. It is a classic expression of Montefalco, combining power, elegance, and remarkable persistence.
