2015 Masseria Frattasi Kapnios

This is a red wine from Campania. The producer is Masseria Frattasi near Montesarchio ( Benevento). We visited this winery in 2018. The wine is made from the Aglianico del Taburno. The winery is just in the foothills of Taburno. Quoted by the playwright of ancient Greece Plato the Comedian, this red has a name that derives from the smoked Greek lemma. A denomination that is not accidental, since the wine is obtained with the appassimento of the grapes that gives it a smoky flavor. As a result of the winemaking of Aglianico in purity, this label comes from the fruits of the vines grown on a soil rich in clay and limestone stones, planted at a height ranging from 500 meters to 600 meters above sea level. After a meticulous manual harvest carried out in the second decade of November, the grapes are withered in an outdoor fruit garden. The wine is deep ruby red with purple hues. The rim isn’t true to the core. The viscosity is high (15% abv). The nose is sumptuous with notes of black fruits , back berry jam , prunes and tertiary notes of tobacco and cedar wood. I couldn’t stop sniffing at the wine, it was a major sensorial experience. The palate confirms the nose with an amazing wine with its full body, velvety tannins, a perfectly balanced acidity and an extremely long finish which invites for more. In summary a superb wine made by a great producer a perfect pairing with any grilled meat dish and also as a meditation wine. PM 94.
