2018 Gianluigi Deaddis “Capo Sardo” Riserva Cannonau di Sardegna DOC
Producer: Cantina Gianluigi Deaddis
Region: Anglona, Northern Sardinia, Italy
Grape Variety: Cannonau
Vintage: 2018
Alcohol: 14%
Appearance
Transparent ruby-red with moderate intensity, showing slight garnet reflections at the rim, indicative of early bottle development. Bright and elegant in the glass.
Nose
Expressive and distinctly Sardinian, opening with aromas of ripe red cherry, Morello cherry, and cherry liqueur, followed by notes of Mediterranean herbs, myrtle, balsamic nuances, and sweet spices. With aeration, hints of dried flowers, tobacco leaf, and subtle earthy undertones emerge, adding complexity.
Palate
Medium to full-bodied, supple and harmonious. The attack is soft and enveloping, revealing flavors of red berries, black cherry, and plum. The wine is supported by vibrant acidity and a pronounced saline minerality characteristic of the Anglona terroir. Tannins are silky and well-integrated, providing structure without harshness. The balance between fruit, freshness, and savory elements is particularly successful.
Finish
Long and persistent, with lingering notes of mature red fruit, Mediterranean scrub, balsamic herbs, and delicate spice. The finish remains fresh and savory, encouraging another sip.
Overall Assessment
A refined and authentic expression of Cannonau from the Anglona district. Rather than emphasizing power, the 2018 Capo Sardo Riserva focuses on elegance, varietal purity, and terroir transparency. Its combination of ripe fruit, maritime salinity, and polished tannins makes it both approachable and gastronomic.
