2019 Domini Veneti Valpolicella Classico Superiore

Producer: Domìni Veneti – Cantina Valpolicella Negrar, Veneto, Italy

Appellation: Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC

Grapes: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara

Producer background:

Domìni Veneti is the premium line of Cantina Valpolicella Negrar, a historic cooperative founded in 1933 in the heart of Valpolicella, just outside Verona. The project was created to enhance the best crus of the region, combining centuries-old viticultural tradition with modern precision. Their vineyards extend across the “Classico” zone—Marano, Negrar, Fumane, Sant’Ambrogio, and San Pietro in Cariano—where the rolling hills, limestone soils, and temperate breezes from Lake Garda provide the ideal conditions for the native grape varieties.

Tasting notes:

In the glass, the 2019 Valpolicella Classico Superiore shows a bright ruby red hue with garnet reflections at the rim.

On the nose, it is expressive yet refined, offering aromas of marasca cherry, wild berries, and violet, layered with hints of spice, dried herbs, and a touch of almond typical of the style.

The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, with lively acidity that highlights the freshness of the fruit. Flavors of ripe cherry, plum, and subtle red currant are supported by gentle tannins and delicate notes of white pepper, licorice, and tobacco leaf. The texture is supple, with a harmonious interplay of fruit and savory elements.

The finish is clean, persistent, and elegant, leaving behind a lingering note of cherry and soft spice.

Food pairing:

Ideal with traditional dishes from the Veneto such as pasta with ragù, roasted poultry, grilled meats, or aged cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto and lighter game dishes.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 16–18°C in medium-sized red wine glasses.
