2021 Cantine di Marzo Fiano di Avellino

Producer: Cantine di Marzo

Cantine di Marzo is among the oldest wineries in Campania—officially registered in 1833—rooted in a family tradition dating back centuries  . The estate is managed today by the Di Somma family, notably Ferrante di Somma, with oenologist Vincenzo Mercurio joining the team to modernize vinification while honoring the winery’s heritage  .

Their Fiano di Avellino DOCG (“Classico” or premium range) comes from vineyards in Lapio and Montefalcione, cultivated at about 550 m elevation in clay-limestone soils, trained using Guyot, and harvested by hand in mid‑October  . The wine is crafted from only the finest free-run juice, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with 8 months on the lees and partial malolactic conversion, before light filtration and bottling  . Awards for the 2021 vintage include 93 points from Luca Maroni and 92 from James Suckling  .

Grape: Fiano

Fiano is an indigenous white grape from Campania, particularly famed in the Avellino zone. Historically significant and known for low yields, it produces aromatic, age-worthy wines with evolving nutty and honeyed nuances  .

In their youth, Fiano wines typically exhibit bright floral, citrus, and spice notes, often developing hazelnut and honeyed layers with bottle age  .
