2022 L'Arco Antico Tintilia del Molise Vinea Benedictina

The wine is produced by L’Arco Antico, based in the Molise region in the province of Isernia and Campobasso. Founded in 2008, the estate combines respect for local viticultural tradition with modern winemaking techniques.

This bottling bears the designation Tintilia del Molise DOC and is made from the indigenous grape variety Tintilia in pure form (100 %).

Grape Variety – Tintilia

• Tintilia is a native red-berried vine of Molise.

• It is characterized by relatively low productivity, moderate vigor, and a rustic yet refined profile.

• Wines from Tintilia typically exhibit a deep ruby-red colour with violet or purple hues, aromatic notes of plum, blackberries, undergrowth, hints of liquorice and leather, soft but defined tannins, and a structure that balances fruit and mineral character.

• Historically, Tintilia was nearly abandoned, but recent revival efforts have brought it back into prominence as a variety expressing the unique terroir of Molise.

Tasting Notes – Vinea Benedictina 2022

Appearance

The wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with subtle violet reflections, indicating freshness and depth.

Nose

The bouquet opens with ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, plum and blackcurrant, layered with subtle notes of wild undergrowth, gentle spice (black pepper, dark chocolate) and a faint tobacco or leather nuance. These nuances echo the characteristic profile of Tintilia.

Palate

On the palate the wine is full-bodied and robust, yet elegant. The texture is smooth and enveloping, with well-integrated tannins that give structure without harshness. The fruit profile mirrors the nose, with plum, dark cherry and a touch of ripe blackberry, while a saline-mineral backbone and fine acidity lend tension and freshness. The finish is long and persistent, with a return of spice, a whisper of liquorice and a subtle balsamic note.

Serving & Pairing

• Ideal to serve at 16-18 °C.

• Excellent with red meat, grilled or slow-roasted, mature cheeses, game and rich ragù pasta dishes.

• Given its structure and character, it will benefit from decanting or some time in the glass to open fully.

• Drinking window: now through 5-8 years (depending on cellar conditions), although the 2022 vintage invites earlier enjoyment of its vibrancy.PM 84
