During my visit to Val delle Rose in July 2023, I had the opportunity to experience firsthand the elegance and dedication that define this estate, part of the historic Cecchi family holdings in the heart of the Maremma Toscana. The winery has become a reference point in the region for its deep respect for terroir and its ability to express the Mediterranean soul through modern, refined winemaking.
Grape Variety
Litorale Rosato 2022 is crafted primarily from Sangiovese, Tuscany’s signature grape, complemented by small touches of other varietals. The grape, known for its vibrant acidity and red-fruit character, lends itself beautifully to rosé winemaking in the warm but breezy coastal zone of the Maremma, where the maritime influence preserves freshness.
Tasting Note
• Appearance: A luminous pale salmon pink, recalling the shimmering hues of a summer sunset over the Tyrrhenian coast.
• Nose: Fresh and delicate, with inviting aromas of wild strawberry, pomegranate, and pink grapefruit, layered with subtle floral hints of rose petals and a whisper of Mediterranean herbs.
• Palate: Crisp and vibrant, the wine displays a fine balance between juicy red berry fruit and refreshing acidity. Notes of cherry and citrus zest unfold on a sleek, mineral-driven frame. The saline undertone, a signature of the coastal terroir, adds complexity and length.
• Finish: Clean, elegant, and persistent, leaving behind impressions of citrus peel and a gentle savory touch.
Overall Impression
The 2022 Litorale Rosato is a wine of elegance and Mediterranean charm — a perfect expression of the Maremma coast. It embodies both the typicity of Sangiovese and the uniqueness of Val delle Rose’s coastal vineyards. Tasted at the estate, it perfectly captured the spirit of that July afternoon: bright, refreshing, and unforgettable. PM 88
