2022 Mustilli Falanghina del Sannio Sant’Agata dei Goti “Vigna Segreta” – Professional Tasting Notes
Producer & Appellation: Società Agricola Mustilli – Falanghina del Sannio Sant’Agata dei Goti DOC, Campania, Italy.
Varietal: 100% Falanghina.
Alcohol: ~13.5% vol.
Vinification & Aging: Fermented in stainless steel after brief cold maceration; aged ~10 months on fine lees with gentle stirring and rested in bottle ~3 months before release.
Appearance: Bright, vivid golden-yellow with crystalline clarity; reflects good concentration and expressive phenolic maturity.
Nose: Fine and elegant aromatic profile; immediate impressions of yellow-pulp fruit (ripe pear, citrus peel), nuanced exotic hints (lime zest, a touch of pineapple), and delicate white floral elements (ginestra, hawthorn). There are layered secondary notes of honeyed vanilla, subtle spice (suggestive of zafferano), and a faint but defining mineral signature that speaks to the limestone and volcanic soils.
Palate: Dry and balanced, the wine presents a warm, rounded entry with velvety texture. The mid-palate shows harmonious interplay between plush fruit, measured freshness and a polished structure. Acidity is lively yet integrated, lending tension without harshness. The finish is lingering, sapid and gently saline, with citrus lift and lingering floral-herbal echoes.
Overall Profile: A refined expression of Sannio Falanghina that combines aromatic finesse with textural depth and classic varietal integrity. It is immediate yet versatile, offering both approachability in youth and potential for gentle evolution given its substance and acidity.
Food Pairing: Pairs seamlessly with aromatically seasoned white meats, delicate seafood preparations, primi piatti with vegetables or light cream sauces, and semi-aged cheeses.PM 89
