Over the years, my many visits to Nativ Winery in Paternopoli, in the heart of Irpinia, have allowed me to witness firsthand the evolution of one of Campania’s most dynamic and expressive producers. Founded by Dr. Mario Ercolino and Roberta Pirone, Nativ represents a fusion of scientific precision, territorial pride, and aesthetic vision. Each visit has revealed the same blend of passion and innovation that defines their wines—the sleek, modern cellar surrounded by the rolling vineyards of Taurasi, the scent of fermenting must drifting through polished steel corridors, and the unmistakable warmth of Roberta’s welcome, which makes every tasting feel both personal and professional.
Among Nativ’s signature creations, the Suadens Bianco 2023 stands out as a wine of luminous character and bold identity. Conceived as an authentic expression of Irpinia’s native white varieties—Greco, Fiano, and Falanghina—it captures the geological and climatic contrasts of the region: volcanic soils, altitude, and the crisp mountain breezes that preserve aromatic freshness.
In the glass, it reveals a brilliant straw-yellow color with green reflections, vibrant and youthful. The bouquet is intense yet refined, unfolding with notes of pear, white peach, and citrus zest, followed by delicate hints of orange blossom, acacia honey, and crushed herbs. Subtle mineral nuances recall the volcanic and calcareous soils of the area, grounding the aromatic generosity in a sense of place.
On the palate, the Suadens Bianco 2023 is silky and well-structured, displaying a perfect interplay between freshness and roundness. The Fiano lends body and persistence, the Greco contributes tension and minerality, while the Falanghina adds floral lift and charm. The mid-palate reveals a gentle creaminess balanced by a fine acidity, leading to a long, savory finish marked by notes of citrus peel and almond.
This vintage confirms Nativ’s mastery in crafting wines that are at once modern in style and deeply rooted in Irpinian terroir. The Suadens Bianco 2023 is not just a blend—it is a dialogue between three historic grapes, orchestrated with precision and emotion. Each glass reflects the winery’s ethos: to honor the ancient soils of Irpinia while embracing innovation and design.
