2024 Mustilli Falanghina Sant'Agata dei Goti

Appearance:

Brilliant straw yellow with vivid green-gold reflections. Clear and luminous, with a youthful appearance that immediately suggests freshness and vitality.

Nose:

Expressive and distinctly varietal. The bouquet opens with Annurca apple, pear and white peach, followed by citrus peel and more delicate hints of tropical fruit. With aeration, floral notes of white blossom and broom emerge alongside subtle Mediterranean herbs and a lightly spicy nuance. A restrained mineral character develops underneath the fruit, adding complexity without overwhelming its aromatic purity.

Palate:

Dry, vibrant and beautifully focused. The initial impression is one of crisp orchard fruit and citrus, with apple and white peach carrying through clearly from the nose. The acidity is lively and well integrated, giving the wine excellent tension and a particularly refreshing profile.

The mid-palate develops greater texture and substance than the nose initially suggests, while remaining elegant and controlled. There is a subtle savory quality beneath the fruit, followed by a pleasant mineral and saline sensation that gives the wine a strong sense of place.

Toward the finish, a characteristic delicate phenolic bitterness appears, reminiscent of citrus pith and almond skin, providing definition and making the wine particularly gastronomic.

Finish:

Persistent, clean and mouthwatering. Citrus, Annurca apple and white flowers gradually give way to mineral and lightly saline sensations, with a fine almond-like bitterness lingering at the end.

Overall Assessment:

A precise and authentic expression of Falanghina from Sant’Agata de’ Goti, balancing aromatic generosity with freshness, texture and savory tension. There is enough fruit to make the wine immediately approachable, but its real character emerges through its mineral dimension, subtle phenolic grip and refreshing persistence.

Particularly significant in the context of Campanian wine, Mustilli has an historic association with the modern revival of Falanghina: Leonardo Mustilli began vinifying the variety in purity in the 1970s, helping establish it as one of Campania’s important native white grapes. The 2024 comes from vineyards in Sant’Agata de’ Goti and is vinified and matured in stainless steel. (Mustilli | Cultura del Gusto)

Vibrant and unmistakably Campanian—a beautifully defined Falanghina where Annurca apple, citrus and white flowers meet savory minerality, saline freshness and the grape’s characteristic gently bitter finish.
