Il Sigillo 2012 - Cantine del Notaio

This is a wine from Basilicata region in the south of Italy. It is a 2012 and it’s made from Aglianico del Vulture grape. The grapes are grown on the vulcanic terroir of the Vulture, the main Vulcano in Basilicata.

Cantine del Notaio is a beautiful winery which we visited in December 2018. ( see the blog dedicated to the visit ).

The wine is garnet in color with the rim not true to the core ( it shows the 8 years of age in the bottle ). The viscosity is medium high (14% abv). The nose is just impressive with strong notes of black fruits ( blackberry and black currant ), secondary notes of dark chocolate and sigar box. An extraordinary nose followed by a perfectly balanced palate which confirms the nose with a smooth tannins; warm , a big body a perfectly balanced acidity and an infinite persistence which leaves you with a desire for more. In summary an exceptional wine made with a a great grape from southern Italy ( Aglianico ) and a pairing with any meat dish, with pizza ( the way we tasted ) but also as a perfect pairing with dessert made with dark chocolate. PM: 94.
