This is a red wine from the Vesuvio Doc. Lacryma Christi means the tears of Christ. the legend goes that Jesus wept as Lucifer fell from Heaven bringing with him a piece of a heaven and creating Mt Vesuvius crater. It is a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso the ubiquitous grapes of the Campania Region. The wine is produced by the Cantine del Vesuvio which we visited in July 2020 ( see blog related to our visit .. coMing soon). The wine is a dark ruby it is clear and filtered. It has a medium viscosity 12.5% ( abv). The nose is very forward, fruity and not very complex with notes of red fruits, cherries and raspberries. The palate is not very impressive with a medium low body, smooth tannins, low acidity and a low persistence. it can be paired with any meet dish ( grilled as we paired it ) or with pasta in red sauce or mushroom sauce ( as we paired the second evening).
