Producer: Sorrentino (Vesuvio / Campania, Italy)
Wine: Prodivi “Frupa”
Vintage: 2016
Category: Red wine (traditional Vesuvian expression)
Origin: Monte Somma – Vesuvius area (volcanic soils)
Appearance
Medium ruby with garnet hints, clear and bright. Moderate concentration with a youthful core for the vintage.
Nose
Aromatic and distinctly volcanic. Opens with sour cherry, ripe red plum, dried strawberry, and a touch of blood orange. Secondary notes bring violet, dried rose, and Mediterranean herbs (wild thyme, rosemary). The Vesuvian signature follows: crushed lava stone, smoky ash, iron, graphite, and a subtle balsamic lift. With air, faint tones of sweet spice (clove, nutmeg) and cocoa emerge.
Palate
Dry, medium-bodied, and savory. The palate delivers red cherry, pomegranate, red currant, and plum skin, supported by a frame of fine volcanic minerality and a lightly smoky, saline edge.
Tannins are medium, polished and well-knit; acidity is medium (+), keeping the wine agile and gastronomic. The finish is long, with persistent red fruit, spice, and mineral smoke.
Structure & Balance
Acidity: medium (+)
Tannins: medium, ripe and integrated
Alcohol: medium to medium (+)
Body: medium
Balance: harmonious, with excellent tension between fruit, spice, and volcanic savoriness
Quality Assessment
Very Good to Excellent. A characterful 2017 that shows both maturity and precision, strongly driven by terroir rather than oak.
Serving & Cellaring
Serving temperature: 16–18°C
Decanting: recommended 20–30 minutes
Drinking window: now through 2027 (depending on storage), likely improving short-term in aromatic complexity
Food Pairing
Ideal with savory Mediterranean cuisine:
Neapolitan ragù, genovese, or braised meats
Agnello al forno with herbs
Sausage and peppers
Mushroom dishes (porcini, truffle oil)
Aged cheeses: Provolone del Monaco, Caciocavallo stagionato
Professional Summary Line
A volcanic, terroir-defined red: sour cherry and violet layered with smoky ash, iron, and Mediterranean herbs, structured by fresh acidity and refined tannins with a long mineral finish.PM 92
