Tenuta San Francesco - 4 Spine 2016

This is a red wine from the Amalfi Coast DOC. It is produced by Tenuta San Francesco in Tramonti .. we visited this winery in Setember 2018 ( see blog on the visit on www.thewinevoyager.com). The wine is made from the Aglianico, Tintore and Piedirosso grapes. Particularly Tintore is an indigenous grape from the Tramonti area, it has a very close genome to Aglianico , but few enough differences to warrant him a different entry in the register.

The color is a dark garnet; the color shows the bottle aging ( 5 years as we tasted , but this wine can absolutely stand few more years in the bottle gaining much more complexity). The viscosity is medium high (13.5% abv) and it is clear and filtered. The nose is absolutely inviting with notes of black fruits ( black cherries, BlackBerry ) and secondary notes of dark chocolate and tobacco. The palate confirms the nose with a medium high body , smooth tannins which can be further smootherd out with age and a long lingering notes of cedar and spices. The persistence is long and enjoyable . In summary a very good wine from the Amalfi Coast in the gorgeous mountains in Tramonti. A perfect pairing with any meat sauce pasta, grilled meat or game.
