Selva delle Monache 2017 - Ravello ( Costa D’Amalfi DOC)

Paolo Mittiga

This is a wine from the Costa D’Amalfi DOC appellation from the Ravello sub-zone. The producer is Ettore Sanmarco in Ravello. I visited this winery on August 2018 in a very hot mid summer day. See the visit to Ravello in the blogs.  The wine is made from a blend of Piedirosso and Aglianico grapes grown in Ravello area with terraced land with gorgeous view of the coast. The vicinity to the water bring a special minerality to the wine and an harmonious balance of aromas. The color is a deep ruby with a medium high viscosity (14% abv). The nose is extraordinary with notes of black fruits ( black cherries and black berries ) and also notes of chocolate , the presence of oak aging is also noticeable with the aroma of vanilla and tobacco.  The palate confirms the nose with a perfectly balanced acidity and tannins, which are more noticeable and need more time to soften up. The persistence is medium high and with the beautiful tasting lingering for long time. In conclusion is a very good wine with a full body and something that pleases all senses. Perfect with pasta dishes with meat sauces, roast and games dishes. PM:93
