SetteVulcani 2016 - Salvatore Martusciello

This is a red wine made from Piedirosso grape. Piedirosso is the indigenous grape from Campania, it is mostly grown in the Campi Flegrei area but you can find it along the Amalfi Coast as well. This particular wine is from the Campi Flegrei DOC and is from Savatore Martusciello producer .. we visited him in 2017 ( see our visit blog.  The vintage 2016 hasn’t been a great one .. I was right in the area when in September during the harvest rained heavily almost every day after a dry and hot summer. I think the wine reflects that. It is deep ruby in color with a low viscosity for 12.5% abv .. I think mostly caused by the rain. On the nose it has notes of red cherry and red currant and a secondary note of licorice. The palate confirms the nose with a medium low body, smooth tannins and a good finish. A good wine despite the bad vintage that should have been drank young.. when we tried it it was three years old, already at his peak . It can be enjoyed with any meat sauce pasta or a steak on the grill
