Vigna Giadi 2016 - Masseria Cardillo
This is a wine produced by the Masseria Cardillo in Bernalda in Matera province in Basilicata. I visited this region in December 2018. See the Basilicata visit blog for more details on the winery and its wines.
This one is produced by Primitivo grape grown in Bernalda on sandy soil given its vicinity to the sea.
The color is deep ruby ( typical of the primitive grape) with medium viscosity ( 13% abv) , its clear and filtered.
The nose is intense and inviting with notes of red cherry, red currant, jam and leather. It is to be noticed the intense minerality.
It is persistent. The palate confirms the nose with a medium body, smooth tannins and acidity and a medium persistency.
It is truly an enjoyable wine, an every day wine to be paired with any hard cheese, pasta in a red sauce , chicken or turkey dishes as well. PM:89
